MC Mong addresses The Boyz’s fans amidst comeback controversy.
On March 12th KST, MC Mong issued a lengthy statement to The Boyz’s fandom, The B, ahead of the group’s comeback with their third full-length album, ‘Unexpected’, on March 17th.
MC Mong, who is involved in INB100 and One Hundred, aimed to clarify misunderstandings and reassure fans. He emphasized that The Boyz is a group built for longevity, not short-lived popularity, and that their commitment to music and growth would ensure their continued presence in the industry.
“A singer’s lifeline is built on humility, character, and skill. The promise I made to The Boyz was simple—work hard every day, practice vocals, and focus on songwriting and composition,” MC Mong wrote, highlighting each member’s strengths and passion for music.
Recently, INB100 accused SM Entertainment of interfering with Xiumin’s (EXO) music show appearances, leading to a brief boycott of KBS before it was later retracted. However, The Boyz’s participation in other music programs like SBS’s ‘Inkigayo’ and Mnet’s ‘M Countdown’ remains uncertain.
In response to fan concerns, The B launched protest campaigns, including truck demonstrations and funeral wreath displays, urging the label to ensure that The Boyz’s comeback activities proceed without disruption.
MC Mong addressed these tensions, stating,
“A company exists solely to protect its artists. We are not using The Boyz to fight battles, but we will fight for their rights when necessary.”
The Boyz recently released a trailer for ‘Nothing’, a track from their upcoming album, which sparked mixed reactions. Many fans criticized the song’s outdated sound, claiming it deviates from The Boyz’s signature musical style.
MC Mong responded to the backlash, sharing that Sunwoo had recorded a full solo version of ‘Nothing’, expressing his deep connection to the song. “This track represents the first page of an unexpected farewell—it could symbolize departing fans, past memories, or nostalgia,” he explained.
To reassure The B, MC Mong promised continuous effort and improvements, stating:
“One Hundred will strive to ensure The B’s confidence and happiness remain intact.”
Additionally, he revealed that he worked on the album under the producer alias “Puft Dunk” and teased upcoming unit promotions for The Boyz later this year, promising unexpected combinations that will excite fans.
Despite the ongoing concerns, The Boyz is set to make their official comeback on March 17th with their full-length album ‘Unexpected’.
