Actor Kim Soo Hyun, who has been embroiled in allegations regarding his past relationship with the late Kim Sae Ron during her teenage years, is expected to step down from the MBC variety show 'Good Day.'
According to Maeil Business Newspaper on March 12, 'Good Day' is scheduled to film on March 13. However, Kim Soo Hyun, a key cast member, will not be attending the shoot.
Since he had already completed a recording session for the show on February 27, discussions are underway regarding whether to edit his previously filmed content. Given that his departure seems inevitable, significant revisions will be necessary, not only for the show’s broadcast but also for its accompanying music releases. With mounting public backlash over his personal controversies, it is deemed difficult for him to continue appearing on terrestrial television entertainment programs.
'Good Day' is a music project in which G-Dragon collaborates with various figures to create the song of the year. The show marks the return of PD Kim Tae Ho to MBC after leaving the network in 2022 and is also G-Dragon’s first fixed variety show appearance following the release of his new music.
Kim Soo Hyun became a main cast member after forming the '88s' group—comprising Hwang Kwanghee, Lee Soo Hyuk, Jung Hae In, Im Si Wan, and G-Dragon—through his personal connections. However, as allegations surfaced linking him to a past relationship with the late Kim Sae Ron, who tragically passed away, public sentiment turned against him, leading to widespread calls for his removal from the program.
The controversy originated from Garosero Research Institute, which cited claims from Kim Sae Ron’s bereaved family, alleging that Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron had been romantically involved in the past.
Garosero Research Institute claimed that Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron had been in a relationship for six years since 2015. The issue lies in the fact that Kim Sae Ron, born in 2000, was only 15 years old at the start of the alleged relationship, while Kim Soo Hyun, born in 1988, was 27. Additionally, they accused YouTuber Lee Jin Ho and others of colluding to pressure the late actress, criticizing her agency’s handling of the situation as irrational.
Kim Soo Hyun’s agency, Gold Medalist, responded, stating, “Malicious allegations have been made against our company and actor Kim Soo Hyun. We will pursue the strongest possible legal action against these false claims.”
Following this, Garosero released further evidence, including photos showing physical intimacy between Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron, as well as messages reportedly sent by Kim Sae Ron to Kim Soo Hyun before her passing. They also disclosed a handwritten letter allegedly written by Kim Soo Hyun during his military service to Kim Sae Ron.
Despite the continuous allegations, Kim Soo Hyun’s agency remains firm, reiterating, “There are no changes to our previously stated position.”
