A new claim has surfaced asserting that actor Kim Soo Hyun was not involved in the tragic death of the late actress Kim Sae Ron.
On March 25th KST, Kim Sae Ron’s ex-boyfriend, identified as Mr. K, gave an interview to The Fact, stating that Kim Sae Ron had fallen into despair due to the indifference of her family.
Mr. K revealed text messages between himself and Kim Sae Ron, as well as messages sent to him by a man believed to be her “New York husband.” This man, whom Kim allegedly married in New York, reportedly sent abusive messages to Mr. K. In her texts to K, Kim Sae Ron wrote, “I’m sorry, just take it out on me,” and “He yells and hits me, but nothing changes.”
In explaining how she came to marry the man, Kim wrote: “At first, there was no expression, and every day was hard. I was so lonely because I had no one to lean on. It’s true I looked elsewhere for comfort. I needed someone who would listen and help. But that didn’t last. After that, he started threatening to leak our KakaoTalk chats and photos, hacked my Instagram, uploaded photos, hit me, cursed at me… I was terrified. I couldn’t break up with him, and I was scared it would affect you.”
Previously, Kim Sae Ron’s family had accused a YouTuber and actor Kim Soo Hyun of driving her to take her own life. They claimed that Kim had been in a relationship with Kim Soo Hyun since she was underage, and that following her DUI incident and career suspension, Kim Soo Hyun—via his agency Gold Medalist, which he and his family reportedly own—had demanded she repay a 700 million won debt related to the accident.
However, Mr. K presented a contrasting account. He claimed that Kim was most deeply affected by her family’s coldness, not by Kim Soo Hyun. He even revealed a photo of a self-inflicted neck wound.
According to The Fact, on November 1st of last year, Kim Sae Ron tore the ligaments in her wrist in a self-harm incident that required emergency surgery. Despite being notified, her family members reportedly never came to the hospital. Mr. K remained with her until discharge, while a staff member from her former agency paid the hospital fees.
Mr. K stated, “After her discharge, I took her home. But when we arrived, her mother was casually dining with a friend and showed no surprise or sympathy. That kind of indifference is what made Sae Ron constantly want to run away from everything.”
Regarding the accusation that Kim Soo Hyun contributed to her death, Mr. K said, “As someone who truly knew her, I find it absurd that someone claiming to be her aunt is suddenly stepping in and using the family’s name to imply that her death was due to problems with Kim Soo Hyun.” He continued, “I’ve never met Kim Soo Hyun, but I imagine he must feel wronged being blamed like this simply because he’s famous.”
Mr. K also released an affidavit bearing his national ID number and fingerprint, attesting to his statements.
Kim Soo Hyun, amid escalating allegations regarding his relationship with the late actress, has suspended all public activities. His agency has filed a criminal complaint against the YouTube channel Garosero Institute, which released photos and alleged he dated Kim Sae Ron while she was a minor.
