As NJZ (formerly NewJeans) embarks on its independent journey amid an ongoing contract dispute with ADOR, member Hanni has revealed a dramatic new look in a behind-the-scenes video.
On February 8, NJZ’s official social media accounts released a short video featuring Hanni. In the clip, she appears with slicked-back hair and a white lace mask, her striking transformation emphasized by red contact lenses and white eyebrows, hinting at a bold new concept.
The previous day, on February 7, NewJeans announced in an exclusive interview with CNN that they had officially changed their group name to NJZ. The members also confirmed their participation in ‘Complex Live,’ a concert event at the global street fashion and culture festival ‘ComplexCon,’ set to take place from March 21 to 23 at the AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong. Speaking about their ongoing battle with ADOR and HYBE, the group stated, “We are putting in a lot of effort to resolve all issues so we can return to the top. At this point, we have completely lost trust in ADOR. We believe we will win this dispute.”
Despite adopting a new name, the members reassured fans that they had not entirely abandoned their former identity, saying, “NewJeans is still very special to us, and we know our fans cherish it deeply as well.”
During a live broadcast on NJZ’s official account, the members addressed their latest teaser images, saying, “Did everyone see the photos of us wearing red lenses today? It’s part of an incredible new concept. You can consider it a concept photo for our new song—it’s a little spoiler. We’re preparing to release a new track in March, and we will be presenting it with a fresh image. NJZ’s debut song will be officially released on March 23. We’re so excited and nervous.”
They added, “We spent a lot of time considering the best way to announce our new music, and ultimately, what we and our fans (Bunnies) wanted the most was a live performance. An agency will also be established soon, so there’s no need to worry.”
