Director Kim Won Seok has expressed his confidence in IU and Park Bo Gum’s performances in the upcoming Netflix series ‘When Life Gives You Tangerines’.
During the ‘Next on Netflix 2025 Korea’ event held on February 4th KST at Fairmont Ambassador Seoul, Kim Won Seok shared his excitement, stating, “If I were to describe their chemistry in advance, it would be the most fun and heartwarming dynamic you could imagine.”
He continued, “You’ll see a completely different side of Park Bo Gum, while IU will showcase all of her diverse and captivating charms in this role.”
Kim also provided insight into the story, explaining, “The Korean title is a Jeju dialect phrase meaning ‘smart and strong-willed.’ The drama follows a young woman who is full of dreams and ambitions but constantly faces obstacles due to poverty, island life, and societal expectations as a woman. Meanwhile, Gwan Sik is a steadfast and unwavering man who would do anything for Ae Soon. Their journey is an adventurous tale of navigating life together, sometimes side by side, sometimes apart.”
The series is gaining significant attention as it brings together screenwriter Im Sang Chun (‘When the Camellia Blooms’) and director Kim Won Seok, known for his acclaimed works such as ‘Misaeng,’ ‘Signal,’ and ‘My Mister.’.
IU takes on the role of Ae Soon, a free-spirited woman born and raised in Jeju, who refuses to accept the fate given to her. Park Bo Gum plays Gwan Sik, a man of few words who expresses himself through actions, relying on his perseverance to push through life’s hardships.
