Actor Kim Soo Hyun’s legal team has cleared up recent rumors about unpaid court fees related to the damages lawsuit he filed against the family of the late actress Kim Sae Ron and the Garosero Research Institute (HoverLab).
As of April 19, the actor’s attorney confirmed that all necessary fees, amounting to just over 38 million KRW (about $26,790), have been fully paid.
The lawsuit was filed in March, which seeks 12 billion KRW (approximately $8.76 million) in damages. During a press conference, Kim clarified that his relationship with Kim Sae Ron began only after she became an adult and lasted about a year. He also accused the late actress’s family of editing KakaoTalk messages to falsely suggest a longer history. According to Kim, forensic analysis confirmed the messages were not from him.
The Seoul Central District Court had issued a correction order earlier this month, prompting speculation when Kim’s legal team requested an extension on April 16. However, his attorney explained that the request was procedural—meant to verify the addresses of the defendants, especially one referred to as the “fake aunt,” whose identity remains unclear.
“It’s difficult because we can’t confirm her name, phone number, or ID number yet,” the attorney said. “But she’s also been criminally charged, so her identity will eventually be confirmed during the investigation.”
He added that police may be able to track her down through call records from other involved parties. While it’s still unclear when the first court hearing will take place, it’s expected to proceed in parallel with the ongoing criminal investigation.
