On the latest episode of comedian Jee Seok Jin’s YouTube talk show, actress Yoon Ga I spills about her journey into the entertainment industry and dealing with public discourse on her looks.
Yoon Ga I mentions that since coming into the public eye, she has received much feedback about her looks. The two dominant opinions were on opposite spectrums, the first being advice to never ruin her natural look with cosmetic surgery, while the other being criticism on how she is not pretty enough to be an actress. She explains that she has always been very satisfied with how she looks, but ironically, the barrage of comments discouraging her against getting any form of cosmetic procedures also makes her doubt that maybe she is not that pretty as she thought. She also proclaims that she has no plans to alter her looks.
Jee Seok Jin agrees with the general consensus against surgery, asserting that her natural look is one of her strengths. He however says that less invasive beauty treatments are slightly different, explaining how he has seen great results from multiple treatments such as Botox, lasers, and skincare procedures. He states that he receives a lot of treatment regularly, causing Yoon Ga I to burst into laughter.
On how her career kicked off, Yoon Ga I talks about how she became a regular cast member of SNL Korea, explaining that there is not an open audition available. SNL Korea’s casting staff sent her an Instagram DM after watching the acting audition clips she had posted online, and the rest is history. She reveals that she auditioned with an impression of the old Seoul dialect, which became a popular skit segment on SNL Korea. She adds on that she was a quiet kid in college, so her appearance on SNL Korea was a surprise to many.
SNL Korea’s female cast members have been gaining much traction in expanding their careers in recent years. Notable cases include Joo Hyun Young, who came into prominence with her role in the global hit series ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’, Ji Ye Eun, who is currently a regular cast member of the established variety show ‘Running Man’, and Kim Ah Young, who has been prolific in dramas and variety shows.
Yoon Ga I currently stars as Na Gyu Rim in the 2025 SBS romance drama ‘Love Scout’, led by Han Ji Min and Lee Jun Hyuk.
