Song Ji Hyo addressed criticism regarding her acceptance speech at the 2024 SBS Entertainment Awards through an Instagram post on January 30.
On January 29, Song Ji Hyo received the 'Scene Stealer Award' at the 2024 SBS Entertainment Awards.
Seemingly caught off guard, she appeared surprised when her name was announced and hesitantly took the stage. Even after receiving the trophy, she admitted, "I was so out of it that I didn’t expect to win," showing her bewilderment.
Some netizens criticized her speech, calling it unstructured and lacking sincerity. Criticism regarding her acceptance speech circulated on social media and online communities.
In response to the controversy, Song Ji Hyo posted on Instagram on the afternoon of the 30th, explaining the situation.
She wrote, "I had very little time to prepare due to my filming schedule—I barely had time for fittings, hair, or makeup. Since the award was unexpected, I was at a loss for words. I’ve always been straightforward when I speak, and I ended up sounding insincere because I was caught off guard."
She then shared a more composed acceptance speech, expressing gratitude to her 'Running Man' castmates—Yoo Jae Suk, Ji Suk Jin, Haha, Kim Jong Kook, and Yang Se Chan—as well as the show's staff.
She wrote, "I am incredibly grateful for this meaningful award, which was chosen by viewers and Running Man fans. I will cherish it dearly." She continued, "Receiving such a significant award motivates me to become a funnier and more entertaining Running Man member. I’ll work even harder to bring more laughter. This year, I will strive to be an even better scene-stealer!"
