SM Entertainment has officially stated that they have no further comment regarding the statement released by the Taeyeon Global Fan Union in response to the recent cancellation of Girls' Generation's Taeyeon’s concert in Japan.
Fans have criticized SM Entertainment for the lack of prior notice and the unexpected nature of the cancellation, which was made only days before the event. Despite indications that the concert's cancellation might be possible, there was no communication from SM until the announcement was made, leading to considerable confusion.
Additionally, fans had expected the seat allocation for the concert to be announced on the 16th of the month, but they only received a notice about the postponement on the 20th. Furthermore, the event was delayed again on the 17th, adding to the fans' distress.
The union emphasized the severe impact on both domestic and international fans, many of whom had already traveled to Japan for the concert. Fans expressed that SM Entertainment’s lack of response and mismanagement resulted in substantial financial and emotional damage. Travel arrangements, including transportation, accommodation, and flights, were disrupted, causing further distress for the affected fans.
In their statement, the fan union criticized the lack of official communication from SM Entertainment, noting that only a translated notice on a Japanese website was provided to the public. Despite the situation, SM has not released any further official statements or explanations for the mishandling of the event. Fans have urged the company to investigate the situation thoroughly, hold accountable those responsible, and offer compensation to those affected by the cancellation.
When contacted for a response, SM Entertainment reiterated that they have "no additional stance" on the matter.
More than two weeks have passed since the cancellation, and both Japanese and international fans have not received any updates regarding refund policies or further actions from the company. Japanese fans, in particular, have reportedly taken the matter into their own hands, filing complaints with consumer protection agencies.
