An innocent weathercaster has been caught in the controversy over allegations of bullying the late Oh Yoanna, and an acquaintance has stepped up to defend her.
MBC weathercaster Oh Yoanna, who recently passed away, was allegedly a victim of workplace bullying. Amid these claims, her senior colleague, Kim Ga Young, has become entangled in the controversy.
On January 27, Maeil Newspaper reported that a 17-page handwritten note was discovered on Oh Yoanna’s phone. The note reportedly named two fellow weathercasters, detailing instances of workplace harassment.
According to reports, Oh Yoanna had informed four MBC personnel about the situation before her passing, yet no formal investigation took place.
Following this revelation, some netizens flooded Kim Ga Young’s social media, leaving comments asking who was responsible, whether she was involved in workplace bullying, and urging her to confess if she was a perpetrator. They flooded the account with comments including, "Who is the culprit?" "Are you involved in workplace bullying?" "Please confess if you have a conscience," and "Are you the perpetrator?"
In response, YouTuber Illzuata (comedian Kim Joo Yeon) came to Kim Ga Young’s defense in the comments, stating that Kim Ga Young was deeply distressed at the time because she felt she couldn't protect Oh Yoanna.
Illzuata further shared her personal experience, revealing that she once worked out with Oh Yoanna, who sincerely expressed how much she liked and relied on Kim Ga Young as a senior. She emphasized that Oh Yoanna would never have wanted to see such comments.
She added that it might be overstepping, but she was worried about Kim Ga Young. Though their connection was brief, she left the comment while praying for Oh Yoanna to be at peace.
Meanwhile, on January 28, MBC released a statement regarding the allegations linking Oh Yoanna’s death to workplace bullying. They stated that discussing matters related to the deceased is extremely sensitive, so MBC must exercise utmost caution in responding.
However, they claimed that while working as a freelancer, the deceased never reported any grievances to the HR department, the personnel counseling office, or the audit office.
Born in 1989, Kim Ga Young (age 35) currently serves as a weathercaster for MBC News Desk. She has also gained public recognition as a member of FC Wonder Woman on the SBS variety show 'Kick a Goal.'
