Actor Lee Byung Hun has shared his thoughts on the controversy surrounding T.O.P's casting in 'Squid Game Season 2.'
The controversy arose after T.O.P., a former member of Big Bang, joined the Netflix series in 2017 following his previous legal troubles for marijuana use. T.O.P. had received a 10-month suspended prison sentence with two years of probation and a fine of 12,000 KRW (about $8.14). His inclusion in the series sparked accusations of favoritism, citing his friendships with Lee Jung Jae and Lee Byung Hun.
While Lee Jung Jae promptly denied the allegations at the time, Lee Byung Hun had not issued a statement until recently.
In an interview with Herald Pop at a café in Sogyeok-dong, Seoul, Lee addressed not only the casting controversy but also other debates involving cast members, including Park Sung Hoon’s controversial social media post and rumors of Park Gyu Young leaking spoilers about Season 3.
Regarding T.O.P's casting, Lee stated, "I wasn’t upset by such allegations. I heard about the director's intentions and thought the role seemed interesting." He added, "Lee Jung Jae shared his perspective because he had his own reasons to do so, but I didn’t feel it was necessary for me to make any official comment."
On the controversies surrounding Park Sung Hoon and Park Gyu Young, Lee remarked, "Such issues are amplified because the series has garnered so much attention. However, since these matters pertain to their individual activities, it’s not my place to comment."
'Squid Game Season 2', in which Lee reprises his role as the enigmatic 'Front Man,' explores the intense rivalry between 'Gi Hun' (Lee Jung Jae), who returns to the deadly games seeking revenge, and the Front Man. The series delves deeper into the brutal competition, with the stakes higher than ever.
