Shinhwa’s Lee Minwoo criticizes acquaintances seeking free tickets to his play.
Shinhwa member Lee Min Woo expressed disappointment with acquaintances who complained about not being invited to his play and openly criticized those expecting free tickets. On November 25th, Lee Min Woo wrote on his social media, “To those acquaintances who said they won’t come to the play ‘Les Misérables’ because they weren’t invited and feel hurt, listen carefully.”
From November 21st to 24th KST, Lee Min Woo performed as student revolutionary Marius in the play Les Misérables at the National Theater of Korea’s Haeoreum Grand Theater. He explained, “Celebrities, acquaintances, and even family who came to see Les Misérables contacted me first to congratulate me and purchased tickets on their own.”
He added, “Let’s mind our manners,” indirectly criticizing those who seemingly expected free tickets. This play marks Lee Min Woo’s first theater role in his 26-year career. His agency, Live Branding, stated, “As Lee Min Woo takes his first step as a full-fledged actor, he plans to actively engage in various fields, including music, entertainment, and art.”
Meanwhile, Lee Min Woo has previously garnered attention for being a victim of gaslighting by a former TV writer. The writer approached Lee Min Woo, claiming connections within the prosecution, and extorted approximately 2.6 billion KRW (about $2 million USD) and 218 luxury items under the pretense of helping him avoid legal troubles. At the time, Lee Min Woo was suffering from sexual harassment allegations and was subjected to verbal abuse, including being called “human trash” and a “scammer.”
Lee Min Woo reported experiencing severe psychological distress from the incident, and the court acknowledged the gaslighting he endured, sentencing the writer to nine years in prison. On a broadcast last year, Lee Min Woo recalled, “It’s not strangers but people close to you who deceive you. In my case, it wasn’t just fraud—it was extreme gaslighting.”
