Gil from Leessang hints at comeback during DUI hiatus.
Gil (real name Gil Seong Jun), a singer and former member of Leessang, has announced his comeback after a hiatus following multiple DUI incidents.
On November 25th KST, Gil posted on his social media account, “Finally complete. I’ve been preparing for years. I’m nervous,” along with a teaser for a project titled “Shining Gil Seong Jun.” The accompanying image shows Gil meditating at a seafood market with an octopus on his head. The text at the bottom of the photo reads “Myung Ssang Project” and includes the date and time, “2024.11.29 12:00pm,” sparking curiosity about what will be revealed at noon on November 29th.
After sharing news of his new song, Gil reposted fan reactions, including one from the unofficial Leessang fan club “Gwangdae.” The post read, “Like an oasis…” fueling speculation about a potential Leessang reunion.
Gil stepped away from the entertainment industry after three DUI incidents. Following his second offense in 2014, he left MBC’s ‘Infinite Challenge’ and halted his broadcasting activities. He made a comeback in 2016 through Mnet’s ‘Show Me the Money 5,’ but returned to self-reflection after a third DUI.
In 2022, Gil reignited reunion rumors by posting, “Leessang has reached its 20th anniversary. I want to do something for the milestone, but I feel lost about where to begin. Still, it’s exciting, and I’ll try to start something positive this year.” However, Gary refuted the speculation, stating, “Not true. The group has disbanded.”
Formed in 2002, Leessang produced numerous hits, including “Gwangdae,” “Tears,” “The Girl Who Can’t Break Up, the Boy Who Can’t Leave,” “I’m Not Laughing,” and “Turned Off the TV.”
