South Korean singer-songwriter Baek Ye Rin is accusing fellow artist Ha Sung Woon of plagiarism.
Baek Ye Rin took to her Instagram story to call out Ha Sung Woon's latest OST track, "What Are We" from the drama 'Love Next Door,' for allegedly copying her song "0310" from her 2019 album 'Every Letter I Sent You.'
She wrote, "It must you to suck copying. Feel bad. If you want a song like mine, please ask me so :) [sic]" and included a capture of the song track.
Following Baek Ye Rin's post, Korean netizens took to a popular online community where they took the time to compare the two songs.
To the surprise of many netizens, the guitar melodies at the beginning of both tracks were strikingly similar. Many agreed with Baek Ye Rin’s accusation, believing that "What Are We" had plagiarized her song "0310."
Korean netizens commented:
"Wow, as soon as the intro played, I thought it was '0310'."
"I know '0310' so well, and I've been watching the drama consistently, so as soon as the song started playing, I thought, 'Oh, this is exactly the same...’ So I wondered, 'Was it a sample or something? But I don't remember Baek Ye Rin ever mentioning that...' and just thought to myself, 'Hmm...'"
"The same guitar loop(?) keeps playing, and isn't that loop a key element in '0310'?"
"If she’s calling it out, it’s probably plagiarism."
"Honestly, I thought it sounded really similar."
"I've been watching 'Love Next Door', and I felt like it sounded oddly familiar. Turns out, there really was a similar song."
"Oh, I also thought it sounded similar during the interlude when I was watching the drama."
"They just took the whole intro and interlude as is?"
"They're so similar."
"The chord pattern sounds the same."
"Wow, it's so similar, you can't say it's not plagiarism."
"Every time I watched the drama, I always thought the track was '0310'."
"I'm Ha Sung Woon's fan and even I think the two songs are similar."
