Netflix has confirmed the production of a new season of the legendary mystery variety show 'Crime Scene.'
On September 26, Netflix officially announced, "We are delighted to bring a new season of 'Crime Scene,' which opened new horizons in mystery entertainment, to not only fans in Korea but also global audiences through Netflix."
'Crime Scene' first aired in 2014 and ran for three seasons. Earlier this year, the show made a comeback after seven years with 'Crime Scene Returns,' which received an enthusiastic response.
The show features a unique concept, adopting a mystery game format where the cast members play both suspects and detectives to solve murder cases. Each participant must prove their innocence while also deducing who the real culprit is, engaging in a psychological battle. The show's strong role-playing elements create an immersive experience for viewers, making them feel as though they are at the actual crime scene, and it has built a loyal fanbase over the years.
'Crime Scene' stands out from other mystery entertainment shows by focusing on logical deduction, psychological games between the participants, and role-playing, drawing in a dedicated audience of mystery enthusiasts.
One of the program’s key appeals is the intense debates between the cast members and the unexpected plot twists that unfold during the show.
The format of 'Crime Scene' has garnered attention not only in Korea but also internationally. It has received critical acclaim, winning several prestigious awards, including the Grand Award at the New York TV & Film Festival, the Best Entertainment Program Award at the Asian Television Awards, and the Gold Award at the Houston International Film Festival.
Yoon Hyun Joon, the PD (producer-director) leading the production of this season, expressed confidence in the show's success. "We decided to bring the fun of 'Crime Scene,' which has received so much love, to both domestic and global audiences. The new season is being planned so that it can be enjoyed by viewers in Korea and around the world. We ask for your continued interest and support as we embark on this journey."
Yoon PD is widely recognized for planning and directing the hit Netflix variety show 'Culinary Class Wars,' alongside co-directors Kim Hak Min and Kim Eun Ji, which has heightened anticipation for the upcoming season of 'Crime Scene.'
While previous seasons of 'Crime Scene' aired on JTBC and TVing, Netflix's involvement in the new season provides an opportunity to reach a vast global audience.
With Netflix available in over 190 countries worldwide, there is growing anticipation that 'Crime Scene' will captivate mystery fans around the globe with this new season.
Details about the broadcast schedule and cast for the Netflix-produced season of 'Crime Scene' have yet to be revealed.
