'Girls on Fire' TOP5 aims for global stages with unique vocal power

The TOP5 members of JTBC's "Girls On Fire" shared their excitement and confidence as they prepare to debut as a new vocal group. The interview took place on the 26th at a café in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, with members Lee Na Young, Hwang Se Young, Lee Soo Young, Kang Yoon Jung, and Yang Yi Re in attendance.

"Girls On Fire," which aired from April 16 to June 25, is the third installment of the hidden musician discovery project by the producers of "Superband" and "Phantom Singer." The show aimed to form a female vocal group to revolutionize the K-pop industry, typically dominated by idol music.

In the final live broadcast on the 25th, Lee Na Young (22), Hwang Se Young (30), Lee Soo Young (22), Kang Yoon Jung (26), and Yang Yi Re (19) were selected as the TOP5.

Members' Reflections and Future Aspirations

Lee Na Young: "I've finally achieved my long-cherished dream of debuting. I didn't expect to come first, but I'm thrilled to have won and to work with such great team members."

Hwang Se Young: "I've been making music for about 10 years. At times, it felt difficult, and I wondered why I couldn't see the fruits of my labor. Participating in 'Girls On Fire' and performing various genres rekindled my love for music, and I'm delighted to be in the TOP5."

Lee Soo Young: "I've dreamt of becoming a singer through numerous auditions, often feeling exhausted. I joined 'Girls On Fire' with the mindset of giving it my all, and I'm grateful to have made it to the TOP5."

Kang Yoon Jung: "As a soprano who majored in vocal music, I enjoyed exploring different genres. I joined 'Girls On Fire' to test my limits, and I learned a lot from the other contestants. I'm happy to share our performances with more viewers."

Yang Yi Re: "I've dreamed of singing on stage since I was young. I'm excited to form a new K-pop group with these amazing older sisters."

Unique Style and Ambitions

The members acknowledged the lofty comparison to groups like Big Mama and Mamamoo, emphasizing their unique strengths as versatile vocalists capable of tackling various genres. They expressed their goal to create a distinct vocal group that stands out in the K-pop industry.

Dreams and Plans

The TOP5 winners will receive a prize of 200 million won, an album release, a nationwide tour, and a global showcase. They discussed their plans for the prize money, with some members considering donations and gifts for their parents.

Looking ahead, the members expressed a desire to perform at Coachella and achieve international recognition. They also hope to win rookie awards as a team, aiming to make a significant impact in the music industry.
