On April 12 ahead of her 'Whee In The Mood [Beyond]' concert in Manila, Philippines, MAMAMOO member and solo artist Whee In sat down with the members of the press and some selected fans to talk about her first solo tour and music career.
After posing for a photo session, Whee In was filled with excitement as she talked about the cheers she received so far from past shows. "This time, I'm going to be alone, so compared to when I was with my team, it's a lot more burdensome on my end," she said. "But I receive so much cheer and love from you, so I can do well because of that."
The first stop in Asia outside Seoul was Hong Kong, followed by Bangkok. Looking back, Whee In is looking forward to hear more cheers from her fans in the subsequent stops as well. "The first stop for my solo tour was Hong Kong, and I was really happy there because they gave me a lot of energy," she shared. "When I went to Bangkok, the cheers were really warm. I carried those cheers over here in Manila, and I plan to use them to be very energetic at the concert."
Last year, MAMAMOO successfully completed their first world tour titled 'MY CON,' spanning cities including in Asia and the US. "After the 'MY CON' concert, I received a lot of anticipation from my fans to visit the Philippines again, so I took that as an energy for me to come back here and do my concert," Whee In relayed.
The fans have always been telling her to come to the country, and so she did. She added, "Just your presence alone already what makes it memorable. Tomorrow, it would be nice as well if you could enjoy the concert with me."
Kicking off 2024 with a solo tour, Whee In promises to continue singing good music in the future and to always be consistent with that.
Holding shows both as part of the group and solo, the artist emphasized that she has own vibes and colors to show, and that would be the main difference between a group and a solo concert. "With MAMAMOO each four of us has different personalities and vibes, so altogether, that also creates a different vibe as well," she expressed.
Whee In shared that she is currently working on her mind control. She reflected, "When we were touring as a group, if there's something that we miss, each of the members can just help each other out. But I'm alone right now. I'm all by myself. I talk to myself sometimes about what to do like how I can do things better."
When asked which song she would choose to introduce herself as a solo artist to everyone, Whee In answered "Spark," a track from her first full-length album 'IN the mood,' which was released in October 2023. "The song has a lot of varieties in it. It has a calm feel, but it's also a hip and lively song. I believe it's the same for me as a person. I also have a lot of varieties," she said.
On her inspiration, Whee In opened up that she can get inspiration from just everything in her daily life. "I also write songs about my fans. I also get inspiration from the love they give me," she added. "Potential is really a wide spectrum, so personally, I feel like I can be that kind of person."
'Whee In The Mood [Beyond]' is presented by L-Squared Productions PH, a fast-rising live events promoter in the Philippines. MAMAMOO's Whee In is the first of the many Hallyu stars they are bringing to the Filipino Hallyu community.
