The media screening of the anticipated thriller "Following" took place on April 29 at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Seoul.
Directed by Kim Se-hwi, the event was attended by prominent cast members Byun Yo-han and Shin Hye-sun.
Set to release on May 15, "Following" follows the story of Gu Jeong-tae, a real estate agent with a peculiar hobby of spying, played by Byun Yo-han. The plot thickens when Gu witnesses the death of Han So-ra, an SNS influencer he was monitoring, played by Shin Hye-sun. The film unfolds as Gu delves into the mysterious circumstances surrounding her death, trying to clear himself of a murder accusation.
During the press event, Byun Yo-han shared insights into his character, Jeong-tae, describing him as unlikable and using his job to satisfy his curiosity by invading people's privacy. Byun hopes the audience grows to dislike Jeong-tae even more as the film progresses. He explained his approach to the role, emphasizing the normalcy of the character despite his unsavory activities, which required him to downplay his performance to maintain believability.
Shin Hye-sun discussed her role as Han So-ra, describing her character as distasteful and one she found difficult to empathize with emotionally. She expressed the challenges of portraying such a unique and morally ambiguous character.
Director Kim Se-hwi commented on the non-traditional choice of protagonists, acknowledging the risk involved in centering the story around such abnormal characters. He hopes the film will prompt viewers to reflect on the adverse effects of social media culture, including attention-seeking and voyeurism, while distancing themselves from the extremity of the characters' actions.
"Following" aims to offer a gripping look into the darker side of human curiosity and the impact of social media on personal boundaries, set to captivate audiences upon its release.
I just found out about Byun Yohan and this movie because he was a guest on Sana's Fridge Interview. It was definitely a clash of personalities LOL. The movie looks pretty interesting.
