Her debut stage, which shook the internet, became her retirement stage, and she disappeared from the entertainment industry altogether. Even 15 years later, many people are still curious about her whereabouts. This is the story of singer Ori.
The whole incident unfolded like this: Ori appeared on KBS's 'Music Bank' on January 2, 2009, to perform the title track 'Snow Falling' from her album. Despite using her cute charm, she couldn't fix her faltering pitch and rhythm. The subsequent numerous "off-key" moments marked this stage as a different kind of "legend." She then disappeared for 15 years.
Her whereabouts were a mystery during that time. How did she spend those years? Ori stated, "(After retiring from singing), I worked in various jobs without limiting myself to a specific field," revealing, "I even worked at an IT company and at an animal hospital."
She continued, "There were quite a few occasions where people recognized me on the streets," adding that she was always too busy hiding herself. Reflecting on those times, she said, "Looking back now, it might have been depression or something similar. My self-esteem was greatly shattered."
Addressing numerous rumors and misunderstandings, Ori clarified, denying claims like being the daughter of a music show executive or being from a wealthy family. She said, "I am not from a wealthy family," explaining, "My father passed away when I was 5, and things were tough for us after that."
There were mentions of the music show producer as well. She recalled, "After the stage, the producer called me separately, and the atmosphere was not pleasant," explaining, "He probably wanted to scold me, but I seemed too cheerful, so he just told me to leave."
Talking about Yoo Se-yoon, who introduced her as the program's MC, Ori mentioned sending a direct message saying, "'I was really sorry at that time' and expressed her desire to apologize if given the chance later."
She didn't spare praise for IU either, who was anticipated as a promising newcomer in 2009. Ori recalled, "I shared the waiting room with IU," and said, "While rehearsing, I was amazed by her singing talent."
According to Ori, after the performance, her mother and the agency's CEO had a long conversation. She said, "I heard discussions about dropping all schedules," revealing, "Debuting and retiring simultaneously, that was the truth."
Lastly, Ori apologized, saying, "It's only natural to criticize or point out my shortcomings regarding my skills," and expressed deep remorse, acknowledging her inadequacies.
