DJ Yesong, who caused the death of a man in his 50s due to a drunk driving accident, was revealed to have lied in her apology from prison.
On February 7, Yesong conveyed her apology through her mother to Sports Chosun while in prison. She bowed her head, saying, "There is no way to wash away the sins I have committed with any words. I will carry the pain I have caused to the deceased and their family in my heart for the rest of my life." Currently, Yesong remains in custody due to concerns about fleeing.
She also stated, "I also know well the sorrow and emptiness of losing a father in my childhood and living with just my mother," and expressed her apology by revealing her family background.
However, it was confirmed that Yesong's statement about losing her father in her childhood was false. According to JTBC's 'Crime Chief' on February 8, an individual reported that Yesong's biological father is alive.
The reporter stated, "Yesong's father is currently alive," adding, "I don't understand why she made it sound like he was deceased."
In response, Yesong's mother confirmed the reporter's claim in an interview with JTBC's 'Crime Chief,' explaining, "As a mother conveying her daughter's perspective, there was a misunderstanding."
She said, "I didn't say that she lost her father, but that she grew up without a father," and added, "Although her father is clearly alive, I didn't say that he had died."
Furthermore, she claimed, "I told the media that I raised my child (Yesong) alone from the age of 3 without a husband," and speculated, "Perhaps there was a misunderstanding on their part."
She added, "It seems like a difference in expression," and said, "I think one could understand it that way from the other person's perspective."
Yesong's mother also did not disclose the contents of the prison letter written by Yesong.
Finally, Yesong's mother said, "I placed a chrysanthemum at the site of the accident and paid respects," and stated, "I think my daughter must receive the punishment she deserves. She is truly sorry to the deceased and deserves to be punished for causing his death."
On the 3rd, Yesong was driving her Mercedes under the influence of alcohol in Gangnam, Seoul, and rear-ended a motorcycle that was ahead of her. She continued to drive about 100m in that state before stopping, and the 50-year-old delivery driver, Mr. A, who was riding the motorcycle, died.
It was reported that Mr. A was a breadwinner who raised his children alone while working as a delivery driver. Yesong faced criticism after images of him cuddling a dog without taking appropriate rescue measures immediately after the accident were shared on social media.
At the time, Yesong's blood alcohol level was reported to be at the level for license revocation. In a preliminary drug test, Yesong showed a negative response, but the police have requested a detailed examination. She reportedly told the police that she had not taken drugs.
Even if what she actually meant was that she had no father around growing up it is still extremely insensitive and messed up to compare that to her killing someone's only parent.
