(G)I-DLE's Leader Jeon So-yeon Discusses Songs That Failed to Pass Censorship
On the afternoon of February 14th, Jeon So-yeon, the leader of the girl group (G)I-DLE, appeared as a guest on MBC Radio FM4U's "Kim Shin Young's Noon Song of Hope." During her appearance, she opened up about the group's songs that have failed to pass censorship.
(G)I-DLE released their second full album "I love" last month, actively promoting the title track "SUPER LADY." However, the pre-release track "WIFE" sparked controversy due to its explicit lyrics, drawing attention when it was deemed unfit for broadcast by KBS due to its suggestive content.
Jeon So-yeon commented on the music industry's censorship, revealing that "there are many songs that didn't pass." She expressed regret not only about "WIFE" but also about other tracks in the album "I love."
She elaborated on her desire to include songs in a full album that couldn't make it into mini albums, stating, "There were many songs we couldn't include in mini albums, so we wanted to use them in a full album. Mini albums tend to match the story and atmosphere of the songs, whereas full albums allow us to show a more diverse range of music. Full albums are not that difficult." Her comments highlighted her special attachment to the album "I love."
Interestingly, "WIFE" was played during the "Kim Shin Young's Noon Song of Hope" show, prompting Jeon So-yeon to joyfully ask, "Did it pass MBC's censorship?" This moment brought laughter and highlighted the challenges of navigating song censorship.
