According to the financial investment industry on January 13 KST, The Black Label will be relocating its main office to Hannam W Office, a building in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, some time in the first half of 2024, possibly as early as next month.
Since its founding in 2016, The Black Label has been headquartered at the YG Entertainment office in Hapjeong-dong. Then, in June of 2023, The Black Label held a board meeting to approve the relocation of its office to Hannam W Office.
Industry insiders believe that the relocation decision is one step forward in The Black Label's move to separate from YG Entertainment. When it was initially founded by Park Hong Joon (Teddy) in 2016, The Black Label was primarily considered an outside record production company working with YG artists. However, recently, the entertainment agency has made moves to expand its activities, recruiting various artists and launching auditions to discover new talents.
While YG Entertainment was The Black Label's largest shareholder in the early days, currently, it possesses approximately 21%. Another of The Black Label's initial investors, SAEHAN Venture Capital, has been steadily acquiring shares in the company since 2021. Lee Jung Hoo, CEO of SAEHAN, is also an external director at The Black Label.
Once relocation is completed, it's expected that The Black Label will seek additional investment from venture capitalists as it aims to recruit and sign new artists and expand its business. Currently, The Black Label is home to Zion.T, Jeon So Mi, Taeyang, Park Bo Gum, and more.
