2NE1's Dara confessed she has aviophobia (fear of flying).
Dara and Solbi appeared as special guests on the December 8 broadcast of SBS PowerFM's 'Cultwo Show: Escape at 2 O'Clock,' and during the 'Hajima!' segment, Dara expressed her fear of flying.
She shared, "I've always had a fear of flying ever since I was young." She elaborated, "Because of frequent international schedules, I must've been infamous among the flight attendants at one point. They probably would say, 'If Dara is on board, you need to maintain her well'." She added, "If the plane shook, I would cry and wouldn't be able to eat. So they came to hold my hand, made ramen for me, and even gave me dolls."
She continued, "They would comfort me like a kid probably contemplating on how to calm me down. So they would ask me 'Do you want a doll?' and 'Do you want ramen?' Even the pilot came to me and explained that there is turbulence but there's nothing to worry about."
Dara then revealed, "I only found out the cause later through counseling with Dr. Oh Eun Young. Going to another country is something exciting but you also need to say goodbye. When I immigrated to the Philippines, I had to leave behind my family and relatives, so that's where the fear was rooted. I've overcome it a lot recently."
I relate. On a flight back home when were about half an hour away from landing, there was really bad turbulence due to the weather as well as the winds and I cried because it literally felt like we were dropping from the sky. I had someone next to me who was, crazy enough, a part of air traffic control. They let me hold their hand and they really calmed me down. I’m pretty sure I squeezed their hand badly and I know my hands were clammy at that point, but I was thankful. I’m a terrible flyer, but I’m always thankful to the air stewards, staff, and pilots.
