Kim Taehyung, aka V of BTS, has recently participated in a successful campaign with Seoul Tourism as their honorary tourism ambassador.
'Seoul Edition 23,' the Seoul Tourism global campaign video series released by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Tourism Foundation, achieved an impressive 500 million combined views across platforms within three weeks of its release, thanks to Taehyung's participation.
The viewership milestone was reached two months earlier than the previous year, and this can be partly attributed to the heightened interest in Hallyu (the Korean Wave) and Seoul.
'Seoul Edition 23' showcases the dynamic allure of Seoul as a 'limited edition,' serving as the central theme for Seoul Tourism's 2023 campaign.
The promotional videos released presented Seoul from two distinct perspectives: 'New Tradition' captures the city’s unique blend of the retro and the modern, while 'Nature in the City' explores the abundant green spaces nestled within the metropolis.
Throughout the campaign, a total of ten promotional videos were released in various formats, including teasers, main videos, and shorts. On YouTube, the videos received enthusiastic and positive responses from both domestic and international audiences, amassing over 10,000 comments and 500,000 likes.
Comments expressed anticipation for Seoul travel, with sentiments such as, "I want to visit the hotspots in Seoul that V introduced," "Visiting SK next Spring! All plans are in place just because of BTS V!" and "I'm glad they introduced Seoul's retro sensibility and healing spots like Han River camping."
The 'Seoul Edition 23' hashtag event was also successfully concluded, involving the uploading of posts with a designated hashtag along with recommendations for places in Seoul.
The five hotspots featured in Taehyung's 'Seoul Edition 23' include: DDP (Dongdaemun Design Plaza), Ikseondong, Gyeongbokgung Palace, Bukchon Hanok Village, and Sebitseom (Sebit Islets).
The Seoul Tourism Foundation also conducted a large-scale global promotion of Seoul tourism using large outdoor advertisements in major cities around the world.
Since September 18, videos featuring Taehyung taking selfies in iconic Seoul locations have been prominently displayed on large billboards in major cities such as New York, Tokyo, Taipei, and Bangkok.
Gil Ki-yeon, CEO of the Seoul Tourism Organization, stated, "Through this Seoul Edition campaign introduced by V, we will share with people around the world the unique retro charm of Seoul and the contrasting allure of nature within the city, reminding them of why they should visit Seoul immediately."
