Rain has been embroiled in allegations of defrauding 8.5 billion KRW (~6.35 million USD) in real estate transaction fees. The claim, according to a report from Money Today on September 25, was made by an individual identified as 'A.'

A's lawyers, Kim Du Jin and Jang Jung Hoon from the Lawfirm Seobuk, formally lodged a complaint against the performer at the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul. The submission of the complaint took place last month. 

Their statements allege that in May of last year, Rain expressed his desire to acquire a building and plot of land owned by 'A' in Gyeonggi Hwaseong Namyang Newtown. To facilitate this transaction, 'A' offered a sale price of 25 billion KRW (18.7 million USD). Subsequent to this, Rain proposed to 'A' to purchase Rain's home in Itaewon, Seoul, to help generate the necessary funds for this deal. 'A 'accepted this proposition without issue. 

The purchase was completed with 'A' purchasing Rain's house for 8.5 billion KRW. Rain, as the representative of the corporation Mega Big Entertainment, purchased 'A's building for 23.5 billion KRW (~17.5 million USD) in the same year, just two months after the contract was signed.

However, this transaction was not without contention. 'A' claimed he was unable to do proper due diligence and inspect Rain's property. The real estate agent, Jung, told 'A,' "Rain is a famous celebrity, and his wife Kim Tae Hee is at home, so he doesn't want to make it public."

'A' was only given photos of the home after he complained, "If I can't even confirm the property myself when buying such an expensive property, shouldn't you at least provide photos?" That is when Jung received photos from Rain's company staff member named Park, and forwarded the photos to A.

Complications arose when 'A' claimed that the property he acquired was not accurately depicted in the photographs he received. Contrary to the images, the house lacked an outdoor swimming pool and the exterior was different. Inside, the internal condition appeared dilapidated, with torn wallpaper and markings on the wall sprinkled throughout. These discrepancies resulted in 'A' seeking clarifications from Mr. Jung.

'A's legal representatives ardently voiced their side of the dispute, stating," Rain pleaded privacy concerns, refused to disclose the house, and misrepresented its state and worth. As such, the complainant was duped into purchasing the property, leading to a fraudulent loss of 8.5 billion KRW in the real estate transaction." They also lamented the non-recovery of the financial impact that 'A' continues to endure as a consequence of this property purchase.

On hearing this accusation, Rain's company responded to Money Today by revealing that they have yet to officially receive the complaint. They stated, "Only a recent call from the police station about the complaint. Hence, we have requested the case to be forwarded to the Gangnam Police Station, which falls within our jurisdiction.”

According to Rain's team, the accusations that the house was never shown to 'A' are false. They pointed out that "Rain had every intention of showing the house, and went as far as showing it twice to 'A's wife through his father. Correspondence was exchanged and the real estate agency staff members can substantiate this claim."

They denied the allegations of misrepresenting the property through photographs and reasoned, "The accusation of Rain sending false photos of an outdoor swimming pool is untrue. The photo in question was actually Rain’s profile picture on KakaoTalk. We urge individuals to refer to satellite images and building records which clearly show there is no pool present. Fabricating such lies when selling a property worth 8.5 billion KRW is absurd.”

However, 'A's representatives promptly retaliated to Rain's defense via YouTuber Gu Je Yeok. They said, "Rain’s claim of showing the house is completely untrue and we are incensed by his baseless lies. We plan to release further evidence to debunk Rain’s deceptive declarations."
