The Boyz member Sangyeon personally clarified the latest controversy through a fan communication app.
About four days ago, The Boyz' Sangyeon became embroiled in a controversy over allegedly using a sexually explicit term during a dance practice video. In the video, The Boyz members were practicing when Sangyeon walked by and allegedly said, "Sa ******." This term that Sangyeon allegedly used is a crude term signifying oral sexual activity that originated from the Japanese language.
When the video was released, it sparked a wave of debate among fans and Korean netizens as they accused the member of using the crude term.
While some were disappointed that he used that type of language, many came to his defense and claimed that it was misheard.
Then on August 3, Sangyeon took to Bubble and explained to fans that he didn't use that term.
He wrote, "You guys must have been concerned over the recent happening. I thought it would be harder if I didn't say anything so. I didn't say something like that! I left it aside because, at that time, there was enough pervasive misunderstanding that lingered...but now what's important is the comeback, so I'll concentrate on the comeback and pay no mind to that!!" I'm sorry I made you worry and suffer!!!"
Nevertheless, K-netizens are continuing the discussion on what Sangyeon actually said in that situation. They commented, "Then shouldn't he share what he actually said?" "I mean, he probably knew that the cameras were rolling, then why would he blatantly say 'sa*****'? So many haters trying to bring him down," "But to be honest, he sounds like he clearly said 'sa****' at that precise moment in the video..." "I'm curious what he really said then," "The sound is so ambiguous so it sounds differently if you think certain words," and "I mean would he admit that he said that word even if he really said it? lol."
If he had actually said that, it would have been edited out. The last thing anyone who reviewed the video would want is a scandal, which they got anyways 🫣
