Recently, SM Entertainment's upcoming boy group RIIZE has found themselves in the midst of a storm even before their official debut.
On August 30, a group of fans launched a fundraiser with the intent of dispatching protest trucks calling for Seunghan's exit from the group. This move was sparked by an uproar concerning Seunghan's past actions, namely his visit to a hotel with a female friend.
There was much buzz two days ago when an anonymous social media user accused Seunghan of visiting a hotel with an underaged girlfriend during his trainee days. The social media user posted several photos showing the rookie idol posing and kissing in front of the camera with his alleged girlfriend at the time.
Then, on August 30, Seunghan personally wrote a letter of apology addressing the latest controversy. He wrote on the group's Instagram page, stating, "I'm writing this because I feel I need to tell you this in advance before standing in front of fans. Firstly, I sincerely apologize to fans who support RIIZE. Because of my personal issues, I caused harm to the team at a very important and critical moment before our debut and disappointed the members and staff."
This latest controversy has brought much shock to fans and netizens. Many fans who were eagerly awaiting the group's debut have been heavily disappointed, triggering some of them to begin fundraising for protest trucks.
The protest fundraising announcement was posted on social media X (formerly known as Twitter), and it explained, "To prevent further rumors from emerging before the group's debut and to prevent the intervention of fans, we are launching a fundraiser for the member withdrawal." The fundraising is scheduled to take place from August 30 to September 1.
With angered fans banding together in an attempt to remove Seunghan, some netizens are beginning to feel sympathetic for the new idol.
While there are still divided opinions on this matter, many netizens believe sending protest trucks is crossing the line, especially since RIIZE hasn't debuted yet.
Netizens commented, "I think this is crossing the line," "This is overdoing it," "I don't feel bad for him," "I do think this is overdoing it but I don't feel bad for him," "I do feel bad for him because it's the fans who are now leading this," "I don't think they are going to be able to send trucks because the fundraising won't be successful," "If you feel bad for him, take him into your group," "I do agree, he was really being careless but this is crossing the line. Since (the photos) were even leaked," "I don't feel bad but protest trucks are overdoing it," "I feel bad for the other members and it is too much sending the trucks," and "This is overdoing it...I wonder if they're doing this on purpose."
Genuine jealous pathetic idiots. I hope the fundraiser fails.
