It has been revealed that Daye, a former member of Berry Good, has won a legal case related to allegations of school violence.
In 2020, Daye filed a lawsuit against an individual, hereby referred to as person A, accusing them of transgressing the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection. Besides defamation, there were also charges of making threats against Daye.
On August 29, JTBC News reported that, according to the court's decision, person A had written a post on an online community on May 28, 2019, claiming that they were a victim of Daye's school violence. They also alleged that Daye had received disciplinary measures of 5 days of community service and 4 hours of special education due to school violence, but all of this was false and had damaged Daye's reputation.
Reports indicate that the court found person A guilty of damaging Daye's reputation, engaging in threatening behavior, and causing psychological distress to the victim. Despite owning up to their wrongdoing and displaying remorse, plus having a clean record of no crimes and several mitigating factors, person A received a fine of 2 million KRW (~1,508.48 USD).
Four years ago, a post with the title "Girl Group Berry Good's Daye is a School Violence Perpetrator" was published on an online community. The author of the post, person A, claimed that they had suffered physical violence and heard sexual remarks from Daye (real name Kim Hyun Jeong) when they were in the 6th grade of elementary school.
However, Berry Good's agency responded firmly, stating, "Allegations of Daye's involvement in school violence are malicious rumors and clear fabrications."
Daye also commented through Berry Good's official Twitter account, saying, "If the claims made by the writer were true, a school violence committee should have been convened. I wonder why they didn't come forward to demand an apology if they had been so angry with me for the past 10 years? Instead of seeking sincere apologies and confirming the facts, their attitude and posts seem to be more about wanting to be a victim. We will pursue strong legal action."
Daye, who was once part of Berry Good, debuted in 2014 with the single "Love Letter" and was active with songs like "Don't Believe," "Because of You," and "Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo." However, Berry Good disbanded in May 2021 when JTBC Entertainment acquired Starwave Entertainment.
That took long but she did it! That $1,500 fine is too little though. And hope the accusation and case had no bearing on the group's disbandment.
