One of South Korea's largest securities firms, NH Investment & Securities predicted that all members of BLACKPINK will very likely renew their contracts with YG Entertainment.
According to NH financial analyst Lee Hwa Jung, "In an exceptional move, YG Entertainment publicly clarified misinformation regarding BLACKPINK Lisa's contract renewal in a span of just 15 minutes after the media reports. The label stated that scheduling conflicts arose due to the artist's tour and personal schedules, not because of the contract renewal. What is notable here is not the label's statement itself, but the time it took for the label to issue a response."
The analyst reasoned that earlier in the year, YG Entertainment frequently made no attempts to respond to speculative news articles surrounding BLACKPINK's contract renewals. In fact, the label is known for its indifferent attitude toward speculative news reports, as seen in past examples of other label artists renewing their contracts. Thus, YGE's quick response to misinformation regarding Lisa's scheduling conflicts indicates that progress has been made in the negotiation process.
Furthermore, analyst Lee added, "BLACKPINK's contracts will expire on August 7, but the group is currently scheduled to perform in LA on August 26. There are other shows currently in talks for September and beyond, with YG actively negotiating various shows and schedules on behalf of BLACKPINK."
Analyst Lee reasoned that similar patterns were observed in both 2011 and 2015, when all members of Big Bang renewed their contracts with YGE. In both cases, the Big Bang members had multiple schedules lined up close to the contract expiration date and even some afterward.
Finally, the NH analyst concluded, "While a definite confirmation is the only way to clear away uncertainties, NH Investment & Securities finds it highly unlikely that forces will prevent BLACKPINK from renewing with YG Entertainment at present."
YGE also said none of the members of Ikon were leaving the company.
We know how that worked out.
