i remember reading an article about SM many years ago saying that they want to appeal to fangirls too and that is easier if they dont have sexy concepts.
appealing to fangirls is their main goal bc they usually are more loyal and also spend more than the typical fanboys or even general public so more 💰 for them and they know that the guys and general public eventually become fans when they are on top
not saying that all female fans don't like sexy concepts but you cannot say that a lot harder to attract them if the ggroups have concepts that is all for male gaze
