Musician Lee Young Ji faced criticism from some netizens after the latest episode of her popular YouTube series, 'No Charim' (also known as 'Nothing Prepared').
This past weekend, aespa member Karina appeared as the latest guest on the May 19 installment of 'No Charim'. Here, host Lee Young Ji commented soon after greeting her guest, "I don't like to make such a big fuss out of someone's outer appearance alone, but you are so beautiful." She then proceeded to measure the size of Karina's head with her hands and marvel over the idol's small face. When Karina remarked, "My sister's face is also very small. It was actually a complex in our family. In elementary school, the kids called me a giraffe," Lee Young Ji responded, "Those people must not own any mirrors. Or they must be people who make fun of you to your face but then turn around and cry over their own imperfections."
After the video's release, some netizens on a particular online community expressed their discontentment over Lee Young Ji's "excessive praise" of another person's outer appearance. Some left comments like, "She is excessively praising another person's outer appearance while at the same time severely devaluing herself" or "I stopped watching because it was uncomfortable. I despite Korea's cultural obsession with outer appearances".
Eventually, on May 22 KST, Lee Young Ji took to her Twitter to leave a cryptic post, which many speculated as an indirect response to the recent criticism.
She wrote, "The only direction I intend to pursue on 'No Charim' is for the video to become the favorite video of those whom I like, or for the video to become the trigger through which I begin to like someone."
What do you think of the recent issue?
but dont all news articles about Karina only take about her looks too though? like how she looks doll-like, ethereal, unreal and etc.
