When it comes to Korean music, it's common for people to only think about K-Pop. However, the K-genre is full of bountiful finds and one of them being K-bands. Especially in an industry where fluffy pop tunes often top the charts, the rock scene of Korean music is often overlooked, and these K-bands are definitely gems when it comes to authentic chords.
Check out 9 K-bands that you should give a shot and pay attention to.
The Rose
The Rose is known for their soft rock, where they lure fans in with its gentle yet upbeat tracks. Known for their gorgeous vocals and always hitting the mark with their excruciatingly beautiful ballads, this group is no doubt made of pure talent. Debuted in 2017, this band has gone through so much and rose stronger than ever after a three-year hiatus, with their new album Heal, and is currently on a world tour to promote the new release.
ONEWE
This five-member band under RBW Entertainment is popularly known for their beautiful ballads, and their recent release, 'Still Here' proves that. Written by the two members who are currently serving in the military, this song is a gift for fans to reassure them that despite being away, they are still here. If you are wanting something a little bit more exciting than a ballad, they also have tracks like 'Montage_' and 'STAR'.
N.Flying
FNC Entertainment’s quirky rap-rock band is not your stereotypical rock band. This group of five is always mixing rock music with some flourishes of hip-hop. Despite their latest release, "I Like You" being their last comeback as a whole before enlisting in the military, they didn't go sappy, but instead just continued to show more of their fun side.
Day6
One of the more popular K-band is this group under JYP Entertainment, of which you might have heard their famous song "Congratulations." Debuted in 2015, this four-member band has steadily risen towards the light of fame, due to their versatile sounds. From soft rock ballads to pop punk, and even 80s synth pop, these talented quartets can perform anything thrown at them.
Xdinary Heroes
This group is JYP Entertainment's newest boy band, after six years. Having a completely different sound than their seniors, Day6, this group dives more into the punk and grunge-rock genre, and they are doing it so well. With this different concept, they have separated themselves from other bands, especially with how loud, powerful, bold, and prominent this group shows off the punk element. Fans were also talking about how great they were at covering (G)IDLE's song, Tomboy. Totally changing it from a pop song to their own rock version of it.
The Black Skirts
Similar to music from Western acts such as Kodaline and Banners, The Blue Skirts is a chill rock genre band, that has the ability to transport their listener into a different dimension. Their music has such a relaxed sound, making you feel like you are physically melting and somehow transducing into somewhere higher.
Hyukoh
Much like The Black Skirts, and known for having a cinematic and often melancholic sound, this group is another one that does chill rock. This 2014-debuted indie band also masters the ability to transport their listeners into a different dimension and mood and crosses genres pretty effortlessly, which makes them so refreshingly charming.
Jannabi
You may have heard of this band a little bit here and there and maybe just everywhere. This indie-rock band has not only released numerous tracks of their own, but has also appeared in a few notable K-Dramas' soundtracks and other artists' tracks. They have a very distinctive voice and are known for diving into other genres such as retro, folk rock, and chamber pop.
LUCY
After participating in the popular survival show JTBC Superband, the band officially debuted in May 2020 under Mystic Story. Consisting of four members, this band is known for its light-hearted, whimsical music, which relies heavily on one of the members, Yechan's violin. They even put their own twist on their cover of Red Velvet's Bad Boy, which they did amazingly great.
All these bands and some more that are unfairly not included in this list, they are really great, but as another person before pointed out, this is NOT Rock at all, they are great Pop or Indie bands in any case, but they are not rock bands. Rock...
The fact of using typical rock musical instruments does not make you a rock band, many other musical styles also use drums, electric guitars, basses... such as soul, jazz, blues... even POP in their music. Origenes also used mostly musical instruments, not just programmed beats and synthesizers like the pop of recent years xDDD
Either way all these POP bands are great ^^
