In a record time of 45 days – or merely a month and a half since its release – j-hope’s debut album, "Jack In The Box," surpassed 200 million streams on Spotify, becoming the fastest album by a Korean soloist to breach this mark. For context, the second fastest album took 183 days or roughly six months to do so, which points out how j-hope immediately conquered the music-loving public with his uniquely addictive beats.
"Jack In The Box" was a highly-anticipated album by both ARMYs, Hoseokies, and music critics from all over the world. In the month of the album’s release, the GRAMMYs listed it in their “10 Must-Hear Albums in July 2022.”
J-hope’s bold new concept for his solo debut did not disappoint and, in fact, delivered beyond expectations.
It also earned a remarkable score of 89 on the review-aggregator site Metacritic, which scourges and distills the most respected music critics writing online and in print into a single number.
The album’s bold mix of old hip-hop, rap, and grunge impressed legions of music aficionados, too; most remarkably, from rappers and heavy metal music fans who are foreign to Korean music.
j-hope’s remarkable list of history-making feats is truly ever-growing. His first mixtape, "Hope Word," launched in 2018, is the first Korean album to surpass 100M, 200M, and 300M streams on Spotify while breaking records on several Billboard and iTunes charts.
The following year, j-hope’s remake of “Chicken Noodle Soup” quickly ascended to No. 6 on Billboard’s Pop Digital Song Sales chart, marking the first time a Korean solo musician did so.
To date, the j-hope also remains to be the most-followed Korean soloist on Spotify, with more than 11.6M followers. He has also recently surpassed 800 million total streams under his solo profile on the world’s largest music-streaming platform.
I am so glad! Congratulations!
