'Nation's MC' Yoo Jae Suk was recently revealed to have paid for a heart transplant patient's hospital fees.
On June 6 KST, an anonymous poster claiming to be a friend of the patient took to an online community to share the story, creating a post titled "A friend of mine had a heart transplant." The poster explained that their friend's surgery cost 88 million Korean won (~$70,400 USD), and while their health insurance covered 73 million of it (~$58,400 USD), they were billed the remaining 15 million (~$12,000 USD).
"The hospital has a system to support those in need, so all the hospital expenses were paid with the amount donated by a single donor," the poster explained. "Only the person who receives the donation is informed of the name. [The name was] Yoo Jae Suk."
The poster continued that when the patient asked if the donor was possibly 'that' Yoo Jae Suk, the nurse confirmed that the donor was in fact the person they were thinking of.
"I got goosebumps," the poster wrote. "Wow, he is really such a light. I was always such a huge fan of Yoo Neu Nim [Yoo Jae Suk's nickname that combines his name with the Korean word for 'God'], but when I heard this news, I truly became one. I heard that he donates a lot, and I could really sense how much he must donate when he was even able to help a close acquaintance of mine."
Meanwhile, Yoo Jae Suk had made headlines last year when it first became known that he donates to subsidize surgery costs for patients who could not afford hospital expenses. In February 2021, a similar post gained attention when it shared that Yoo Jae Suk pays for the surgeries of those in difficult circumstances roughly once a month.
he's literally playing the real life 'daddy long legs' from hospital playlist
