Super Junior's Heechul is always mentioned when there is celebrity DUI news that is released in the entertainment industry.
This is because Heechul's previous statement is brought to light every time there is a celebrity DUI. Once again, Heechul's past statement was brought to attention in light of the recent DUI news of Kim Sae Ron.
On May 18, there was news that Kim Sae Ron was under police investigation after she collided with a roadside electric transformer box to the point that the protective enclosure around the box was destroyed, and the box was uprooted from its position on the ground.
When police arrived at the scene, Kim Sae Ron also refused to take a breathalyzer test and asked to be transported to the hospital for a blood test instead.
After the news of Kim Sae Ron's DUI was released to the public, there were various online communities that talked about Heechul. In one online community, a post with the title "The celebrity who is re-evaluated every time there is a DUI incident," was created.
The post showed a short video of Heechul on MBC's 'Radio Star' back in 2020, where he talked about his drinking habits.
In the episode, Heechul explained, "I really like drinking but then there are times when I can't hire a designated driver. If it's a close distance and when it rains, designated drivers don't show up. And as a human being, I sometimes think 'It's close by and it's right here, should I just drive over?' The moment I think that way, I think 'I must be crazy, this is how I would get into an accident.' So I just got rid of my car."
Heechul explained that he got rid of his personal car so that he could get rid of the slightest temptation to drink and drive. Heechul's statement was brought to light again with the news of Kim Sae Ron's recent DUI incident.
Netizens praised Heechul saying, "There is a reason he is able to promote for so long and is still active in the entertainment industry," "If you look at his looks, he looks like he would cause a lot of trouble but he doesn't even have one controversy," "I think he knows the dangers of car accidents because he experienced one before," "He is really upright," "He's a good example," "I really like how Heechul is so upright," and "The way he thinks is really good."
Don’t drive under influence imagine the innocents lives that have been cost by accident like this. It would cost less to hire a taxi or a Uber than someone getting hurt or that person at the end of the day it isn’t worth it
