On May 6, American fashion and culture magazine Flaunt Magazine released its 180th issue’s cover and pictorial of Kang Daniel titled ‘Those Oceanic Rhythms’.
Kang Daniel is the first full Korean artist to appear on the magazine’s cover since its launch in 1998. The first half Korean artist on its cover was Anderson .Paak in 2021. Kang Daniel is also the third K-pop artist on the cover, the previous being GOT7 members Jackson Wang and Mark Tuan.
In the pictorial, Kang Daniel is seen with copper hair and soft lighting wearing suits from Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton, and Vetements.
The full pictorial can be found on Flaunt's official website.
In the accompanying interview, Kang Daniel spoke about his past and present family, his favorite movie, and his idiom of choice: “A person who ages wisely thinks of the future, and a person who does not age wisely thinks of the past.” He said that he looks forward to the future with his family, Konnect Entertainment team, and fans, all of whom drive his motivation.
He also spoke about his career and the thought he puts into his music: “When I write my lyrics, I try to express myself with my words. I had some healing moments when I received all the feedback from the fans that I love. When my true stories are being told from my lyrics, I receive the most healing.” For instance, Kang Daniel delved into writing for ‘PARANOIA’: “It was a kind of secret story about myself. I was trying to include my personal hardest times [...] I would love for people to find some hope in a difficult situation from my lyrics.”
Flaunt Magazine remarked that Kang Daniel is always reinventing himself. Daniel reflected on acting in ‘Rookie Cops’, the first Disney Plus original K-drama, as “an honor and a great experience” as a way to express feelings. He also spoke on the entrepreneurial side of making music about how an album isn’t just created on a song-by-song basis and is completed with the support of his team.
The interview closed with Kang Daniel foreshadowing his future plans: “The things that I want for and wish for, and the plans that I have, are fortunately very much the same. I want to be busy writing songs and I want to do my own personal music for everyone to listen to and enjoy.”
In other news, Kang Daniel is gearing up for his May 24 comeback with his first full album titled ‘The Story’. A teaser schedule and making-of video of the trailer have recently been released.
This man is killing it. Had he signed with a label other than his own I wonder if he would have been able to release the amount of music he’s released, and had as many cb as he’s had? My guess is no. He was making money moves from day 1. I feel like he was playing chess while everyone else was playing candyland. It will be interesting to see if he can maintain this level of success. I believe he can as long as he doesn’t have any “scandals”. It does make me happy to see him doing so well. We all love a great success story. I’m no different.👍🏻👍🏻
