K-Pop fandom culture is truly unique from other fandoms, with even smaller in-fandom cultures depending on who you stan. One of the things that set K-Pop fandoms apart from the usual fandoms is the existence of lightsticks.
A lightstick is a portable, glowing electronic device shaped like a stick or small lamp in its own design based on the idol it represents. These are mainly used to light up and cheer during performances or concerts, but they can just simply be a way for them to show support for the group their love.
All lightsticks are exceptional in their own ways, but here are some of the most beautiful lightsticks among K-Pop idols.
1. Big Bang's Bang Bong
First on the list is the very first official lightstick in K-Pop, Big Bang's lightsticks that were designed by Big Bang's leader, G-Dragon. Bang Bong became the first-ever lightstick ever, carrying the group's "B" emblem and its crown design for the VIPs. It also comes with a microphone that can detect low bass beats, which allows the light to sync with the song beats.
2. Cosmic Girls' Ujujung Bong
A lovely lightstick on its own, Cosmic Girls' Ujujung Bong features the group's own color, pink, and the fandom color of navy blue and is intended to look like outer space. The lightstick also includes the words "WJSN x UJUNG" graved in front, in reference to their fandom, Ujung, which can also mean space station aside from the meaning, friendship.
3. SEVENTEEN's Caratbong
One of the brightest (literally) and one of the most beautiful lightsticks, Caratbong is derived from SEVENTEEN's fandom name, CARATs, sporting the very aesthetic mixture of the official fandom colors rose quartz and serenity. It is also easily customizable, working best with flowers, stickers, and even Swarovski crystals. It also carries SEVENTEEN's logo and the trademark diamond, perfect for those who are slipping into the diamond life!
4. Oh My Girl's Dear My Bong
The white lightstick has a beautiful, snowy design with symbols from Oh My Girl's "Windy Day" music video. The girl group's name and logo are printed on a globe, which contains antlers. In reference to the antlers inside, the members make a reference to deer who have antlers, resulting eventually in the name of the lightstick to reference deer and the word dear, to refer to one's beloved.
5. VIXX's Starlight Stick
One of the most unique and amazing lightsticks, VIXX pays homage to their fans, Starlights, with their own lightstick named after them. Encased in the glass hexagon in the lightstick is a light resembling the look of the night stars, designed in the official fandom colors, navy blue, and shining gold. At the very top of the lightstick is VIXX's logo and the members' names engraved.
6. LOONA's High Bong
LOONA's lightstick resembles that of a royal scepter, was originally dubbed Orbit's Crown in reference to the fandom name, Orbit, and the design of a golden crown surrounds a clear crystal gem, topped with a cute crescent moon. There are also 15 light modes available—white, flickering white, dimming white, and a light in each of the members’ official colors. It was eventually announced to be called High Bong, with the meaning of support for "Let's go up higher," a name derived from "Hi High," the first work with all of LOONA!
7. iKON's KONBAT
One of K-Pop's most unique lightsticks and very beautiful in its own way, iKON has its lightstick literally designed similarly to a baseball bat. It was also designed to shine in a bright red, the group's signature color, alongside iKON's group logo.
8. AOA's Wing Bong
AOA, standing for the group's name, Ace of Angels, has a great fitting and almost heavenly lightstick for them. Topped with a luminous light shaped like wings (hence the name, Wing Bong), it is not only bright but also perfectly references the angel in AOA.
9. MONSTA X's Mondoongie
Mondoongie, MONSTA X's lightstick, was released during the group's second anniversary and was unveiled as a gift to MONBEBEs. The colors sported represent the group’s "The Clan" album series, with turquoise symbolizing "Lost," blue representing "Guilty," and pink representing "Beautiful." The lightstick can also be easily customized to shine greatly even more.
10. GFriend's Glass Marble Sticks
GFriend has one of the most beautiful lightsticks, no matter which version it may be. In this version, the new light sticks, nicknamed “glass marble sticks,” are filled with liquid and glitter, making them resemble snow globes. The globe houses the royal letter "G," referencing GFriend.
11. Red Velvet's Kimmanbong
Red Velvet has a very unique and elegant-looking lightstick, white and lined with their color pastel coral, with an emphasis on the beautiful initials of Red Velvet encased in the crystal. The name is a bit unique, however, referencing the abbreviation of kimchi mandu as the fans say that the design was similar to that of the dumpling.
12. ATEEZ' LIGHTINY
ATEEZ has a very symbolic and beautiful lightstick, named LIGHTINY, as it combines the words light and destiny, referencing how ATINY, ATEEZ's fandom, brings the group and destiny together. The lightstick includes a globe-shaped light, map design, a little crown, and an engraved phrase "8 makes 1 team" alongside the group's debut date.
13. Chungha's Byulrangbong
Chungha released a lightstick made for her fans named Byulharang, naming her lightstick Byulrangbong. The lightstick shows off a gorgeous turquoise and purple light. Enclosed in a clear hexagonal crystal, it houses her beautiful logo of moon and star shining brightly and perfect for cheering her!
14. Samuel's SaBong
The lightstick, designed by soloist Samuel himself, is called SaBong in reference to Samuel's Bong and with another meaning SAseum (deer) Bong, with garnet antlers around the lightstick. The color is also referencing Samuel's fandom, Garnet, with a beautiful meaning of “no matter what will always protect ‘Garnet(s)’ who always support Samuel” and shine together.
Aside from the fourteen lightsticks listed, there are a lot more many beautiful lightsticks that shine as great too. No matter how each lightstick looks, unique or beautiful it may be, it still carries the same great meaning of being able to support the artist you truly love. And in any case that a fan must be unable to buy a lightstick, that does not diminish the amount to support and love you give towards your idol, as we can support them in our own ways!
Which among the lightsticks in the list are your favorites, and which lightsticks do you think should be included too?
Personally my favorite lightstick is Seventeen's. It's beautiful and so bright. Other ones I love that aren't on the list:
DreamCatcher's
Nu'est
Gfriend's Ver 2
