On April 19, tvN confirmed with various media outlet reports, "The recorded episode of this week's 'You Quiz on the Block' will air as scheduled on April 20."
Last week, 'You Quiz on the Block' confirmed that South Korea's president-elect Yoon Seok Yeol had participated in a recording for the program earlier this month, on April 13.
News of Yoon Seok Yeol's appearance on 'You Quiz on the Block' bought heavy criticism from some viewers, as many argued that the president-elect's appearance on such a program could lead to certain types of "image-making". Some also argued that politics should not mix with entertainment variety shows.
Prior to South Korea's presidential elections, several presidential candidates including Yoon Seok Yeol, Lee Jae Myung, Lee Nak Yeon, and more appeared on variety programs like SBS's 'Master in the House', KBS2's 'Problem Child in House', and more. But while these "presidential candidates special" episodes focused on introducing all of the presidential candidates in the running, the upcoming episode of 'You Quiz on the Block' will mark the first ever time that a president-elect is appearing on a variety program after winning the race.
Meanwhile, tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block', hosted by Yoo Jae Suk and Jo Se Ho, is a fusion talk/quiz variety program, inviting ordinary civilians in today's society to share their stories with viewers. The program airs every Wednesdays at 8:40 PM KST.
I just hope no one will send hate towards Yoo Jae Seok or Jo Se Ho for this. In all likelihood, they had absolutely nothing to do with casting Yoon Seok Yeol and I'm sure they'd prefer not to be caught up any kind of political controversy.
