"I had been a pilot for around 7 years
In the midst of bad weather
I began my trip having gone through countless amounts of typhoons
I was familiar with the skies, but I came across a totally foreign place
Tall skyscrapers, wide windows, and long halls
Everything was still as if time had stopped
The sun shone in and lingered in the landscape
There were figures walking through the still landscape
It wasn't clear if they were walking up or down the skyscraper
The cloud closed, and the city disappeared
I could never find that place again."
Louis Vuitton's designer Virgil Abloh opened a presentation for his next men's collection, held in Seoul this July 7th, having the collaboration with the brand's global ambassadors, BTS. This is the first time that the guys are seen in a runway presentation. The show started with a beautiful introduction in Korean, a metaphorical description of the skyscraper where the presentation took place and referring to those 7 years as the members, each of them has gone through so much pain and hard work, yet know they can't see any other thing that is not success. Abloh was inspired this time by essays of James Baldwin, written in 1953.
As tall and almost endless as that metallic building shown in the presentation is the amount of success and worldwide recognition that both BTS and Louis Vuitton have. Joining powers, these two brands had been a trending topic since the announcement of BTS's role as ambassadors. Virgil Abloh has been the artistic director of LV's menswear collection since 2018, bringing to the company a new brand deluxe perspective through his creativity and his modern yet classic style. The first sight of BTS wearing an item for this new winter collection was a green Cyclone Sunglasses in j-hope's selca, uploaded on Twitter. The glasses have a delicate touch of crystals and are inspired by bold style, taking it back from the Fall-Winter collection of 2006. RM has also used the glasses, this time in black, during the promotional images of the show, featuring a varsity jacket with two tones of green, giving a fresh university student look. Jin was seen with the now-famous "Carrot Purse," which price is still unknown and is a continuity of the diverse styles of purses for man, being created after an expensive airplane bag and a luxurious coffee cup bag, seen in J-hope's hands, a complete CEO look with the LV newspapers on a light blue shade. Jungkook was in a cowboy style, with a crew neck black sweater and a black hat. A shiny yellow tote bag is the key to the green and white suit wore by V. In all-black style, SUGA carried the new metallic back, bringing a little rock and roll to the show. The tartan clothes were meant for Jimin, who looked confident in them with green mocasines as the final touch.
Red lights, red sticks on the building, and a red "Hope" in a white balloon airplane, the signature of J-hope in the introduction, was needed for Jimin to appear as a runway model, in a red shade stunner glasses with a golden frame and a detailed light grey suit. Next, RM appeared in a long black coat with white airplanes on it, black hat as a 60s style man. Both Jimin and RM were carrying metallic bags, being RM the owner of striped looks. The truth is, the main concept is based on traveling, and while RM is walking down the building as a real top model, we can see the models from the band in many different green shades, suits and bags, designs to choose and all of them pointing in a neon winter style. Leather, fur, and metal were the main materials used for the collection. Looking down on a point, RM sees SUGA. Grey hair with a white strap bag and green letters on it can be read, "At the same time, at the same place," all in capital letters and across SUGA's chest. A black suit, a coat with two airplanes on it, and green sneakers were the combination set for the rapper. Red clothes made their entrance, but the green is still dominant. Blue tones in his grey hair are being focused as SUGA looks to J-hope. Wearing a blue detailed coat with continents on it and the exquisite Pyramids of Giza in the middle of the whole item, painted in pink and a "Louis Vuitton" on it and the monochrome logo, J-hope gives us a look to other suits, all of them in pattern styles, being grey, brown and blue now the stars with a little of green, fur and crystals. The bag designs were mainly with the typical monochrome flower and some stuffed animals on it. When J-hope reached the light, we could see his red mocasines and a black bag with red chains. Lately, he smiled at V, who was going downstairs in a total black suit with a red shirt, red tie, and the famous coffee bag, plus another black bag.
V was leaving behind models with Scottish plaids-styled clothes, most of them coats and pants. Green bags with yellow, Fuschia, blue, brown, and orange plaids combined the modern tartan look, prominent hats, and earrings among them. Piercing on the eyebrow and an eraser-themed necklace hanging around his striped shirt, Jung Kook was standing in a red metallic box-shaped elevator. Skates completed the green street outfit and red jackets, models standing behind while he was going up. Fur made an appearance once again, and crystals were intensifying. When he reached the top, Jung Kook met an angelical face with blond hair and a long, warm red tartan coat. White shirt and a green bag, Jin looked upper to the "Hope" airplane, constantly flying around them during the whole presentation. The models were divided after that into blue and grey clothes, appearing on different floors. The red light turned off, and so did all the lights of the building, leaving BTS at the center of it all.
The presentation was directed by Park Sye Young and Jeon Go Woon. The staff behind the show were almost entirely made up of Koreans, and the models were a mix of Chinese, Korean, and Americans. The whole show was recorded in Seoul, meaning that this collection and the announcement of BTS as ambassadors were meant, mostly to be, for the Korean public.
Having received a lot of good comments towards the show, how the guys from BTS were the real top runway models, ARMY was astonished by everything that the luxury brand has done so far: from collaborating with the worldwide successful Korean group to sending individual invitations throughout Twitter to each of the ARMY.
