Hanteo is a real-time chart that counts the number of albums actually bought by customers, but only in the Hanteo-certified stores.

Thereby, this chart doesn't give the exact number of albums sold to real people, but a quite close estimation of the total sales of an album. Weekly music shows such as Music Bank, M! Countdown, the show, and Show Champion use the figures given by Hanteo to count the physical sale points that are used to calculate the final score of an artist during music shows.

As for Gaon (Physical sale), it's a chart which counts all the copies shipped by companies to stores all around the world. This means that Gaon counts an album that was shipped as bought, even if nobody bought it, but the album has been distributed to a store/retailer.

Hence, the numbers displayed by Gaon are (a lot more)/higher than the real number of sales of an album. Gaon is used for year-end award shows and music shows such as Inkigayo and Music Core.

Gaon updates monthly, while Hanteo update daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly.
