Recently, YG Entertainment has announced a new song from BLACKPINK, called 'Kill This Love' via Instagram releases through the official BLACKPINK Instagram and the members' Instagrams, as well as through press releases. What is not understandable is how we are only getting one song. I don't blame the members, but I don't understand why YG is not taking advantage of BLACKPINK's star power, especially since it is obvious that YG wants the girl group to be introduced to the American music industry.
What also concerns me is the ambiguity of the Kill This Love teaser. Since the release isn't an album, rather, it is a single track, YG has kept the whole Kill This Love thing rather mysterious and closed off. BLINK's have no idea what to expect. In the teaser, we can see a poster of the four members posing in a very 'bad girl' manner. However, the bad girl concept has been used for the majority of BLACKPINK's nine songs. Will Kill This Love be original and something fans will love and remember, such as the beloved 'As If It's Your Last'? Or a recycled concept from the overworked Teddy, the only producer YG currently has?
I'm very concerned and scared that Kill This Love may disappoint many fans. There is so much risk involved. Firstly, it is over hyped since we are starved of BLACKPINK songs, and therefore fans may be disappointed about something that is perfectly acceptable as a song. Secondly, YG may have made the song overly 'extra' since it is quite a significant comeback, and this may draw away from the usual style of BLACKPINK. I often ponder what it would be like if BLACKPINK would release a full album. Perhaps then it would be more likely for the songs to have more meaning, a more advanced concept and more feeling. The main issue here is that there is no openness to more risque and experimental ideas that many BLINK's will either love or hate, since only single tracks or small batches of songs are being released at a time. I really hope that YG finds more producers and starts to value BLACKPINK for who they are, because right now, the girl group is very popular and loved, but is losing some of that momentum than can spring them to becoming icons. It's sad to see so much potential being wasted, while other groups are carrying on and releasing 2 full albums a year.
Rose, Jennie, Jisoo & Lisa are exceptional, talented and beautiful members. They shouldn't have to face the embarrassment of only releasing perhaps 2 songs a year, whilst living on the brink of real K-POP oomph. I'd just like to discuss what other people think of the situation.
As I said a few weeks ago about YG's treatment of Blackpink, YG has no, NO faith in his girl groups. YG has done nothing, but force Blackpink on having mini-album and singles, since their debut. YG is manufacturing Blackpink's disbandment, by continuously giving them digital singles, making each comeback become a yearly thing and forcing each member have their own solo music activities. Yang Hyun Suk wants his label to be predominantly male represented as he hasn't done nothing for Lee Su Hyun's, Lee Hi's, CL's and Dara's careers, however, there hasn't been anything new with his boy groups either, with iKON and Winner.
I understand that the girls of Blackpink appreciate the fact that they have a music career, all because of Papa YG, but they need to realize that Papa YG is manufacturing their soon disbandment. Blackpink is still fairly new to the industry as they haven't passed their 5th year anniversary, let alone their 3rd year anniversary and Papa YG is forcing Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa and Rosé into their separate solo music activities. It's not right, I have on good authority that the members of Blackpink don't want to go solo yet as they know that they're still fairly new in the industry.
Let me ask you something.........
(Be honest with me)
Did you think that Jennie enjoyed going "solo" for her 'Solo' single?
Was Jennie's 'Solo' single debut and promotions big as any of Blackpink's comeback?
Blackpink has had only 4 comebacks throughout their career....
2 Mini-albums
2 from Debut Album and Comeback
Square One (D.A.) Square Two (C/B.A.) (Both album parts of EP Album "Blackpink" 2016)
"Boombayah" (D.S.) "Playing with Fire" (C/B.S.)
"Whistle" (G.S.) "Stay" (G/B.S.)
(Where both singles come from the EP album titled"Blackpink", which was released in August 30, 2017)
1 Non-album Single
"As If It's Your Last" (Comeback and Goodbye Single) (2017)
1 Most recent comeback Mini-album
Square Up (2018)
"Ddu-Du-Ddu-Du" (Comeback and Goodbye Single)
I know that the members of Blackpink are (behind closed doors and Papa YG's back) growing more and more frustrated with how their music career is being handled. Blackpink should not consider re-signing with YG and let their exclusive contract expire and they should look for new homes for them and their careers, like their former YGlabel-mate, Psy's label, PNation. PNation is home to former 4Minute member Hyuna, former Pentagon member E-Dawn and Jessi. If Blackpink did that, they'll have a much better outlook with their music career.
