Netizens talked about YG's alleged unfairness in artist representation.
On February 8, 'Newsen' published an article about the "silent news" of CL, Lee Hi, Suhyun (of Akdong Musician), some of most 'held-back' YG artists who have been going through long, ongoing periods of hiatus. The article satirically asked whether the "YG Treasure Box" was "ever going to become a 'YG Antique Box'", alluding to the handful of solo artists who have not seen the light for a while.
Although Yang Hyun Suk, the CEO of YG, has announced upcoming comebacks and debuts of other artists such as Black Pink, WINNER, iKON, and their rookie group Treasure 13, no mention of existing solo female artists have been made.
Among them, the article and the netizens pointed out CL, who had last officially released a single 3 years ago, Lee Hi, who has only worked on OSTs over the last few years, and Suhyun, who has been active as a YouTuber but not as a musician since her brother Chanhyuk's military enlistment back in 2017.
Some of the top-voted netizen comments include:
"Lee Hi really isn't making any appearance...."
"I personally found Katie Kim really pitiful. She was trapped in that frigging treasure box for so many years, and then left YG in the end. Ugh, Yang Hyun Suk, please stop being so selfish. If you're gonna let them go, let them go as soon as possible."
"Please switch to Antenna (Music)........"
Meanwhile, as reported, YG Entertainment has plans for Black Pink to return with a mini-album, as well as subsequent solo debuts of the members throughout the year.
