Following the news of BLACKPINK's performing at Coachella, korean outlets learned how the founder of the festival, Paul Tollett, visited South Korea prior the announcement of the lineup to personally invite the quartet.
Meanwhile, BILLBOARD wrote: "The internet erupted in excitement over the news that BLACKPINK is set to appear at this year's Coachella." and added "Other Asian acts, like South Korea’s alt rockers Hyukoh, traditionally-inspired avant-rock group Jambinai and Japan’s iconic electro-pop trio Perfume, also drew a lot of attention. The inclusion of Perfume and BLACKPINK marks a new stage for Coachella, as they're the first-ever J-pop and K-pop girl groups, respectively, to perform at the event."
Time magazine continued and wrote: "BLACKPINK is set to become the first female k-pop act to perform at Coachella which features headliners Ariana Grande, Childish Gambino and Tame Impala. With an attendance of 125.000 per week, BLACKPINK is set to play for two fridays across the weekends of April 12th to 14th and 19th to 20th."
The Rolling Stones also published an insightful article about YG Entertainment's girl group titled "BLACKPINK: five things to know about the k-pop girl group"
BLACKPINK's fandom are rejoicing the news as the western interest for the young girls keep rising.
In fact, following the collaboration with Dua Lipa, who sent them a sample of "Kiss and Make Up" with the willing of having the quartet featured in her new album, the great interest showed by sir Lucian Grainge, chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group played a huge role in BLACKPINK's contract with Interscope.
Yang Hyun Suk said "BLACKPINK’s contract was decided quickly, thanks to the direct involvement of chairman Grainge." while the ceo of UMG expressed his excitement by adding "I’m thrilled to expand our relationship with YG through the addition of BLACKPINK to the Interscope family. We look forward to building upon BLACKPINK’s remarkable early success by putting the global resources and expertise of UMG behind them and growing their audience around the world."
Hope YG actually invests in their appearance. Instead of making them perform an old song the same way in the backup dancers outfits.
