According to Billboard, BTS' most recent album 'Love Yourself ? - Tear' became first K-pop album ever to top the Billboard 200 Chart. The chart ranks the most popular albums of the week by tracking traditional album sales, streams, and more.
The newly released album started off with 135,000 units, with 100,000 being traditional album sales - biggest week for the genre of K-pop. What's more, this is the first time in nearly 12 years in which a foreign-language album has topped the chart. The Billboard 200 Chart will be updated on May 30 which will show BTS sitting at the number 1 spot above heavy hitters such as Post Malone, Charlie Puth, Playboy Carti, and more. Also, they're the second Asian artist ever to top the chart, with the other being Zayn Malik.
"Korean boy band BTS debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart with its latest effort, Love Yourself: Tear. It's the first No. 1 for the seven-member group, and the first K-pop album to lead the tally. The set, which was released through BitHit Entertainment on May 18, launches with 135,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending May 24, according to Nielsen Music.
