'Along With the Gods: The Two Worlds' is originally a webtoon by Jo Ho Min. The production was made into a film in 2017 with actors Cha Tae Hyun, Joo Ji Hoon, Ha Jung Woo, and Kim Hyang Gi. The film became a mega-hit, making records at the box office in Korean film history.

On the February 27 airing of MBC Every1's 'Video Star', Joo Ho Min revealed, "IU was #1 in my mind for the cast, but time past and IU grew up, so we got Kim Hyang Gi." He continued, "Kim Hyang Gi said she finished the cartoon in one sitting. She told me she thought the person who wrote this must be a genius."
Jo Ho Min also revealed that role offers were given to Gong Yoo, Kim Woo Bin, and Won Bin.
