As we face the reality of SISTAR's disbandment, let's explore some of the wonderful songs they gifted the fans and the success they had over the years.
SISTAR debuted back in 2010 with the song "Push Push" in which the K-pop world would soon realize how important they would be in the industry during the summer.
Contrast to some groups, SISTAR never had any scandals or problems within the group but rather was known for being so close to each other even outside the entertainment business. This might explain why they never had any member departing from the group or had a member change. They didn't push the typical K-pop girl group image either but rather pushed through with their own concept of being healthy and sexy.
"Push Push" is a song that consists of hard hitting beats but also with cool and solid vocals to match. This would be the start to their summer hit-filled career.
In 2011, they released "So Cool" that portrays their healthy sexy image that would be sung in karaoke rooms all across Korea through their catchy chorus. But also during the time, SISTAR19 (Hyorin & Bora) would also debut that gave a very refreshing vibe at the time.
2012 was possibly their most successful year that elevated their career to another level by releasing their song "Alone". "Alone" became one of the most popular songs of 2012 which resulted in numerous amount of parodies and covers virtually everywhere. In addition, they also released the "Loving U" music video in June of the same year that caught the attention of listeners and viewers everywhere during summer.
"Give it to Me" was released in 2013 that again showed why they had the sexy image not many groups can maintain for years. With their unique choreography and easy to follow dance points, their popularity soared once more. Additionally, it was around this time where each member would thrive outside of group activities as well, especially Soyu with her distinctive voice tone/color.
In 2014, SISTAR made their comeback later than their usual schedule but regardless of the timing, their songs "Touch my body" and "I Swear" swept the charts again and ingrained the idea that the two words 'summer' and 'SISTAR' go hand in hand. It was also in February of 2014 in which the song "Some" sang by Soyu and Junggigo garnered widespread attention and love that exists even today.
Going back to only two years ago to 2015, "Shake It" dropped. Although this song did receive some mixed reviews, the majority would come to fall in love with this catchy song. Also, while many may not be aware, it was in this music video where they gave some of the members of the rookie group (at the time) MONSTA X extra exposure to the world. Featuring in a widely-popular group's music video can only positively impact their career.
2016 was perhaps their most unique and challenging comeback in their career as the concept was very different from what they were used to. Once again, there were mixed reviews but despite the negative feedback from a minority, "I Like That" still did well on the charts.
Last but not least, 2017 is their last promotion as a group and they have disbanded after successful seven years. "LONELY" would wrap up their careers as SISTAR. Whilst the lyrics may express a breakup between loved ones, it could also be interpreted as a goodbye with the fans. Despite going their separate ways for now after seven strong years, they left a huge mark and impact in the K-pop scene, summers will no longer be the same.
