A commander in the army and his attempt to cover up sexual harassment has been exposed, angering the public.
According to military press documents released on October 10, a female staff sergeant was sexually harassed by a male first sergeant back in June.
The incident took place at a dinner hosted by a battalion commander. The first sergeant allegedly forced the female staff sergeant to sit next to him, touched her inappropriately, and said, "You know I like you. Let's leave together."
The following day, the victim reported the incident to another higher-up, only to hear a ridiculous response.
The commander argued, "Think carefully. For the sake of the battalion, just forget about it... What are you trying to accomplish by causing trouble?"
The division chief, who also received the harassment report, apparently ordered, "Let the guy apologize but make her sign an agreement so she doesn't bring this up again."
Everyone in the leadership position who should have done something only tried to help cover up the crime.
The details of this incident only rose to the surface after the victim reported it to the military police.
The first sergeant has been arrested and the investigation continues.
