On July 22, KBS confirmed that the drama will now be ending with a total of 14 episodes. This is 2 less than the amount of episodes initially scheduled to air. Reportedly, this abrupt change was due to the fact that the '2016 Rio Olympics' are coming up soon, and that the drama aims to avoid any overlap with special Olympic broadcasts.

Many viewers reacted to the unfortunate news with great disappointment, and even rejected KBS's "excuse". In fact, the majority believe that the true reason for the change in schedule was the result of the drama's low viewership ratings.
Currently, MBC drama 'Doctors', airing during same time as 'Beautiful Mind', is taking the lead in the category of Monday/Tuesday dramas with 19.3% in viewership ratings. Meanwhile, 'Beautiful Mind' is the lowest out of KBS, MBC, and SBS with 3.9%.
