A four-year-old boy was the unfortunate victim of a fire in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi province, that left him both homeless and motherless.
Cable network TV Chosun recently reported that donations are being collected from all over the nation for the little boy who became an orphan in a tragic turn of events. This past January, 23-year-old mother Na Mi-kyung passed away while trying to save her son from a burning apartment located in Uijeongbu. Many were lamenting at this heartbreaking story of the single mother who died, leaving her son all alone in the world. All hope was not lost however, as around 800 people stepped up to help Na's little boy.
In a fundraising account established by the Korea Disaster Relief Association, hundreds of selfless donors contributed as much as they can, along with encouraging messages such as, "Stay strong," and "Grow up bright and healthy." The total funds raised amounted to around 133,590,000 KRW (~$121,000 USD). One entrepreneur alone donated 30,000,000 KRW (~$27,000 USD), and several women vowed that they would support the boy until he grew up.
Na's son is currently staying at a children's center in Northern Gyeonggi Province, and is awaiting to be placed in a nice adoption home.
