After a bit of a silence, Verbal Jint's agency Brand New Music has released a statement to address the concerns.
"Hello, this is Brand New Music. We are here to deliver our official position regarding the plagiarism controversy brought up by some regarding the Verbal Jint-produced track 'My Type' on 'Unpretty Rapstar'.
First of all, we think it's a shame that such controversy has risen about Verbal Jint's work when he himself had postponed his own album that he had been working to help out with this project.
The song 'My Type' and Omarion's 'Post To Be' are both of the 'Ratchet' music genre, which has been receiving a lot of love in the American music market. If you listen to and compare them overall, you'll hear that the melody and the composition, the progression of the chords, and the arrangement of the instrumentals are completely different, and that they're two separate songs.
We want to thank everyone who show interest and support towards Verbal Jint's activities. Thank you."
Check out both songs below and see if you think the plagiarism accusations are valid or exaggerated.
